Since graduating from the Guildhall School of Music in 1988 (GGSM Hons) Alastair has always taught the Guitar either as a part time peripatetic teacher in schools or to private students fitting lessons in when home from touring.
Between 1989 and 1994 he was a Guitar Examiner on behalf of the Guildhall School of Music External Examinations Department. During this time he examined candidates from Preliminary Grades to Performance and Teaching Diplomas for both the Classical Guitar and the Plectrum Guitar syllabuses.
Lessons are offered to pupils of all ages and abilities.
The lessons are structured to teach technique, theory and music in different styles.
A students specific musical interests are also explored through the instrument and integrated into this lesson structure. There is the facility to record a performance with or without backing tracks which is an ideal way for pupils to analyse their playing.
Students can take examinations if they wish. These are with recognised Music Examination Boards.
Firstly a prospective pupil books a free consultation which lasts about 30 minutes. This provides experience of the lesson style and more detailed information.
After this they can book a lesson if they wish.
Lessons cost £28 for an hour or £14 for half an hour.
Tuition takes place in Wirksworth, Derbyshire.
